Pour souligner la réouverture du pavillon d’arts décoratifs et de design, de même que l’apport de l’honorable Serge Joyal à la collection qu’il abrite, le Cinéma du Musée et le MBAM vous invitent à assister à la première du documentaire Joyal.
La projection sera suivie d’une conversation entre Mary-Dailey Desmarais, conservatrice en chef du MBAM, et Serge Joyal. En français.
À propos du film
Portrait audacieux d’un politicien atypique, nationaliste et fédéraliste, amoureux de culture, champion de la mémoire collective et des libertés individuelles. Enfant modèle, enfant terrible, Serge Joyal crée à vingt-deux ans le Musée d’art de Joliette, poursuit en justice le gouvernement de Pierre Elliott Trudeau et dispute la mairie de Montréal à Jean Drapeau en 1978. Ministre et sénateur, il défend les droits des minorités contre les préjugés de la majorité. Au moment où le Canada est menacé de devenir le 51e État américain, il défend le modèle de société humaniste qu’il a contribué à construire.

To mark the reopening of the decorative arts and design pavilion and in honour of the Honourable Serge Joyal’s generous donation in support of the collection it houses, the Cinéma du Musée and the MMFA cordially invite you to attend the premiere of the documentary Joyal.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Mary-Dailey Desmarais, Chief Curator of the MMFA, and Serge Joyal. In French.
About the film
Joyal paints a bold portrait of an unconventional politician, a nationalist and federalist, a man passionate about culture and a champion of collective memory and individual freedoms. At once a model child and an enfant terrible, Serge Joyal founded the Musée d’art de Joliette at the age of 22, sued the government of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and ran against Jean Drapeau for mayor of Montreal in 1978. As a minister and senator, he defended the rights of minorities against the prejudice of the majority. Today, as Canada faces the threat of becoming America’s 51st state, Serge Joyal continues to defend the model of a humanistic society that he has helped to build.
