In conjunction with the exhibition Seeing Loud: Basquiat and Music, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, in collaboration with Cinéma du Musée, has invited music expert Ansfrid Tchetchenigbo to put together a series of screenings of films shining a light on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s imaginative world and what inspired him. The films chosen provide a look at the record labels, musicians, cultures and specific sounds that influenced the artist’s work.

• DOWNTOWN 81 by Edo Bertoglio

• NEPTUNE FROST by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman

• THE LOST TAPES: DU HIP HOP AU QUÉBEC by Will Prosper

• BLUE NOTE RECORDS: BEYOND THE NOTES by Sophie Huber

The Thursday screenings will be attended by the series curator and cultural advisor, Ansfrid Tchetchenigbo. He will introduce the films and offer some ideas about how they connect with Basquiat’s work.
